LazyTown (musical group)
Icelandic children's musical ensemble created for the educational TV series of the same name.
Musical project formed in 2004 as part of Magnús Scheving's children's television show, producing energetic pop songs promoting healthy lifestyles. The group featured actors from the series performing character-based songs composed primarily by Máni Svavarsson, with international distribution through Turner Broadcasting.
- Creator Magnús Scheving (who played Sportacus) was a real-life aerobics champion, designing the show to combat childhood obesity through music and movement.
- Stefán Karl Stefánsson (Robbie Rotten) became a global internet icon in 2016 when his song 'We Are Number One' spawned viral memes during his battle with cancer, leading to massive fan fundraising for his treatment.
- The band's final performance coincided with the show's cancellation in 2014, though a brief revival occurred in 2015 for the 'Welcome to LazyTown' album. Stefán Karl Stefánsson died of bile duct cancer in 2018 at age 43.
