Swedish pop-rock duo that achieved global fame in the late 1980s and 1990s with chart-topping hits and multi-platinum album sales.Formed in Halmstad, Sweden, by Per Gessle (guitarist, songwriter) and Marie Fredriksson (lead vocalist). • Marie Fredriksson was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2002, leading to a temporary hiatus. She underwent surgery and chemotherapy but suffered permanent vision loss and reduced motor skills.
• Their song 'It Must Have Been Love' was originally rejected for the 'Pretty Woman' soundtrack but became a global No. 1 hit after director Garry Marshall personally intervened to include it.
• Fredriksson died on December 9, 2019, from a recurrence of her brain tumor. Gessle confirmed Roxette's dissolution shortly after, stating: 'The journey is over.'
