Cahit Berkay
Turkish musician, composer, and founding member of the influential Anatolian rock band Moğollar.Born in Sivas, Turkey, Berkay pioneered the fusion of traditional Turkish folk with rock music. He co-founded Moğollar in 1967, contributing as a multi-instrumentalist (notably bağlama) and composer. The band won international acclaim, including France's Grand Prix du Disque in 1975. Berkay also composed iconic scores for over 40 Turkish films before reuniting with Moğollar in the 1990s for continued performances.
- Abandoned architecture studies at Istanbul Technical University to pursue music, initially joining the band Apaşlar before forming Moğollar.
- During Moğollar's 1976-1993 hiatus, Berkay lived in France, composing music for documentaries and developing experimental sound techniques.
