Ryan Caybyab: Maestro of Filipino Music
Ryan Cayabyab is a National Artist of the Philippines for Music, renowned as a prolific composer, arranger, conductor, and pianist. He is a pivotal figure in contemporary Philippine music (Original Pilipino Music or OPM).Born Raymundo Cipriano Pujante Cayabyab in Manila, Cayabyab studied at the University of the Philippines College of Music. He rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s, composing across diverse genres including pop, jazz, classical, sacred, and musical theater. He co-founded the San Miguel Foundation for the Performing Arts and served as its Executive Director. He received the National Artist Award in 2018.
