Carolina Crown
Carolina Crown is a World Class competitive junior drum and bugle corps based in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
Founded in 1988 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Carolina Crown is a highly decorated member corps of Drum Corps International (DCI). Known for its powerful brass sound, innovative visual programs, and demanding repertoire, the corps consistently ranks among the top competitors in DCI. They won their first DCI World Championship title in 2013 and are celebrated for their intense performance style and commitment to musical and visual excellence. The organization also operates the Carolina Crown Brass Theater ensemble and offers extensive educational programs.
- Carolina Crown's hornline, nicknamed 'Crown Brass', is renowned for its exceptional sound quality, power, and technical proficiency, often winning the Jim Ott Award for Best Brass Performance at DCI Finals.
- The corps is known for its visually stunning and often avant-garde productions, incorporating complex choreography, elaborate props, and unique color guard work that pushes the boundaries of the marching arts.
- Beyond competitive success, Carolina Crown places a strong emphasis on youth education, offering camps, clinics, and its 'Crown Academy' programs to train young musicians and performers.
- The organization faced a significant challenge in 2020 when the entire DCI summer tour was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to virtual engagement efforts instead of live performances.
