Liquido: The German Band Behind 'Narcotic'

Liquido was a German alternative rock band formed in 1997, best known internationally for their 1998 hit single 'Narcotic'.Formed in Mannheim, Germany, in 1997 by vocalist/guitarist Wolfgang Schroedl, bassist Stefan Schulte-Holthaus, guitarist Wolle Maier, and drummer Tim Eiermann. Achieved massive success with their debut single 'Narcotic' from the album 'Liquido' (1998). Released two more albums ('At the Rocks' in 2000, 'Alarm!' in 2002) before going on hiatus around 2005/2006. Briefly reformed in 2017 for anniversary shows.
  • The band's name 'Liquido' was chosen for its international sound and meaning ('liquid' in Italian/Spanish).
  • Their breakthrough hit 'Narcotic' became a global phenomenon, topping charts across Europe and achieving significant success in Australia and New Zealand. It was less prominent in the US but gained alternative rock airplay.
  • Despite the massive success of 'Narcotic', the band struggled to replicate its impact with subsequent singles and albums. Internal tensions grew over creative direction and the pressure of expectations.
  • The band unofficially dissolved around 2005/2006. Members pursued other projects: Wolfgang Schroedl became a music producer and songwriter, Wolle Maier formed the band Polarkreis 18.
  • In 2017, the original lineup reunited for a series of concerts celebrating the 20th anniversary of the band and the enduring legacy of 'Narcotic'.
