Survivor (band)

American rock band best known for 1980s anthems like 'Eye of the Tiger' and 'Burning Heart'. Formed in Chicago in 1978 by Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan. Achieved global success with Rocky III soundtrack. Underwent multiple lineup changes, notably lead vocalists Dave Bickler (1978–1983) and Jimi Jamison (1984–1988, 2000–2011). Disbanded temporarily in 1988, reunited in 1993. Continued touring with founding member Sullivan after Jamison's death.
  • 'Eye of the Tiger' spent six weeks at #1 on Billboard Hot 100 (1982), won a Grammy, and was nominated for an Academy Award.
  • Lead singer Dave Bickler left due to vocal cord issues during the 'Caught in the Game Tour' (1983), replaced by Jimi Jamison.
  • The band disbanded in 1988 amid legal disputes between Peterik and Sullivan, reuniting only after settling lawsuits in 1993.
  • Jimi Jamison died of a heart attack in 2014; original drummer Gary Smith passed from cancer in 2016.
  • Despite no new albums since 2006's 'Reach', Survivor continues touring with Frankie Sullivan as sole original member.
