Arctic Monkeys
English rock band formed in Sheffield in 2002, known for their influential role in the 2000s indie rock revival.
Formed by childhood friends Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Matt Helders, and Andy Nicholson. Gained fame through online demos before signing with Domino Records. Released record-breaking debut album in 2006. Current lineup includes Turner, Cook, Helders, and Nick O'Malley (bass since 2006).
- Their debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' (2006) became the fastest-selling debut album in UK chart history, moving over 360,000 copies in its first week.
- Original bassist Andy Nicholson left abruptly in 2006 before their first US tour due to exhaustion; he was replaced by Nick O'Malley who initially joined as a temporary member but became permanent.
- Frontman Alex Turner's side project The Last Shadow Puppets (with Miles Kane) released the acclaimed album 'The Age of the Understatement' in 2008, creating scheduling conflicts with Arctic Monkeys.
