Scorpions
Legendary German hard rock/heavy metal band formed in Hanover, known for global hits like 'Wind of Change' and 'Rock You Like a Hurricane'.
Founded by guitarist Rudolf Schenker in 1965. Achieved worldwide fame in the 1980s with multi-platinum albums. Sold over 100 million records globally. One of Germany's most successful rock acts with a career spanning six decades.
- Original vocalist Klaus Meine nearly left in 1981 due to severe vocal cord issues but recovered after surgery, leading to their breakthrough album 'Blackout' (1982).
- Guitarist Michael Schenker (Rudolf's brother) left in 1973 to join UFO, causing long-term fraternal tension. He later briefly returned for the 'Lovedrive' album (1979).
- 'Wind of Change' (1990) became an anthem for the fall of the Berlin Wall. The CIA allegedly investigated whether the song was part of a US psy-op, though no evidence was found.
- Drummer Herman Rarebell wrote lyrics for hits including 'Rock You Like a Hurricane' after improvising the iconic drum intro during a studio session.
- After announcing retirement in 2010 with a farewell tour, the band reversed their decision in 2013 and continues to perform, releasing 'Rock Believer' (2022).
