- East 17 faced significant controversy in 1997 when fellow member Brian Harvey made controversial comments about ecstasy use on live radio, leading to his dismissal and contributing to the band's initial split.
- BarryP has been involved in several legal disputes related to the East 17 name and branding rights with other former members over the years.
- Despite periods of inactivity, BarryP has consistently been the driving force behind East 17 reunions, touring with various line-ups and releasing new material under the band name decades after their initial success.
