A taksim is a modal improvisation common in Ottoman and Middle Eastern traditions. The Hicaz maqam, associated with longing and melancholy, is one of the most widely used modes in Turkish classical music. This recording showcases Nubar Tekyay's interpretation of the Uzzal variant, a sub-mode of Hicaz.
