This hauntingly beautiful choral piece, though long attributed to Renaissance composer Giulio Caccini, was actually composed by Soviet lutenist Vladimir Vavilov in the 1970s. Vavilov’s deliberate obscuring of his authorship reflects both his humility and the cultural pressures of the Soviet era.
