Why did Pachelbel's Canon become one of the most recognizable classical pieces centuries after it was written? Learn!
Pachelbel's Canon in D is one of the most famous and frequently performed classical compositions. Interestingly, it was relatively obscure until the 20th century when it experienced a massive resurgence in popularity. The piece follows a strict canon form over a repeating bass line (ground bass) and was originally paired with a gigue. Its harmonic progression has been widely adapted in modern pop music.
