The Inventions and Sinfonias, BWV 772–801, are a collection of thirty short keyboard compositions by Bach. The F minor Invention, BWV 780, is a two-part contrapuntal work known for its expressive and somewhat melancholic character. It is a superb example of Bach's ability to weave intricate melodic lines that are both technically challenging and musically profound. Originally written as pedagogical pieces for his son Wilhelm Friedemann, they are now essential studies for all keyboard students.
