Bach's Magnificat is a monumental sacred choral work setting the Latin text of the Magnificat canticle. The E-flat major version (BWV 243a) was first performed in 1733 for Christmas services in Leipzig and includes Christmas interpolations. Later Bach transposed it to D major (BWV 243) for general use throughout the year.
