Bedřich Smetana - Vltava (The Moldau)

Vltava, also known as The Moldau, is the second and most famous symphonic poem from Bedřich Smetana's cycle Má vlast (My Homeland). Composed in 1874, it beautifully depicts the course of the Vltava River from its two small sources (represented by two flutes) through the Czech countryside, past forests, hunters, a peasant wedding, nymphs dancing in the moonlight, and eventually flowing past the historic Vyšehrad castle before disappearing into the distance. It is one of the most iconic works of Czech classical music and a masterpiece of musical nationalism.
