Zampa is an opéra comique about a pirate who mockingly places a ring on the finger of a marble statue of his former lover. The statue comes to life and ultimately drags him to hell. The overture is particularly famous for its energetic and dramatic themes, and remains one of the most performed orchestral works from French Romantic opera.
