Guillaume Costeley was a French Renaissance composer and organist who served in the royal court. "Quand le berger veid la bergère" is a chanson, a type of French secular polyphonic song that was popular during the Renaissance period. Costeley was known for his chromaticism and was one of the founders of the Académie de Poésie et de Musique in 1570.
