Who's behind the notes? Discover Johann Sebastian Bach: Master of Baroque Music
"Siehe, es hat überwunden der Löwe" is a cantata composed for the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels. For much of its history, it was incorrectly catalogued as a work of Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 219). Modern scholarship, based on stylistic analysis and historical research, has definitively reattributed it to Georg Philipp Telemann, where it is now catalogued as TVWV 1:1328. The work opens with a striking choral fugue and features celebratory brass, typical of music for this feast day.
