Franz Schubert - Ave Maria

Schubert's Ave Maria, originally titled "Ellens dritter Gesang" (Ellen's Third Song), is one of the most beloved classical compositions worldwide. Composed in 1825 as part of his Op. 52, a setting of seven songs from Walter Scott's poem "The Lady of the Lake," the piece has become predominantly associated with the Latin text of the Catholic prayer "Ave Maria." Despite this association, Schubert never intended the piece to be used with the prayer's text. The work exemplifies the Romantic era's fascination with lyrical melody and emotional expression, featuring a beautiful, flowing vocal line accompanied by arpeggiated chords in the piano that create a reverent, contemplative atmosphere.
