"Amar Shonar Bangla" is the national anthem of Bangladesh, written by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in 1905 during the first partition of Bengal. The song was a protest against the partition and expressed deep love for the Bengali homeland. It was adopted as the national anthem in 1971 during Bangladesh's liberation war. The melody is based on a Baul folk song by Gagan Harkara.
