"Aegukka" (Song of Patriotism) is the national anthem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Composed by Kim Won-gyun with lyrics by Park Se-yong, it was adopted in 1947, replacing the earlier anthem. Unlike the more militaristic "Song of General Kim Il-sung," Aegukka is a solemn and majestic hymn focusing on patriotism and the beauty of the Korean landscape. Its musical style is reminiscent of Soviet anthems of the era, reflecting the political alliances of the time.
