Greensleeves

Greensleeves is a traditional English folk song dating back to the 16th century. Often associated with the Tudor period, it was first recorded in 1580 in the "A Handful of Pleasant Delights" as "A Newe Northen Dittye of the Ladye Greene Sleeves." The melody has been used for countless arrangements and is particularly associated with Christmas time through the hymn "What Child Is This?" which uses the Greensleeves tune. Despite popular legend, it was not composed by King Henry VIII for Anne Boleyn.
