Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite of ten pieces composed for piano by Modest Mussorgsky in 1874. The work was inspired by an exhibition of works by architect and painter Viktor Hartmann, a close friend of the composer who had died suddenly the previous year. "The Old Castle" depicts a medieval castle with a troubadour singing in front of it.
