Schubert’s "Ave Maria, D.839" is a lied from his Op. 52, composed in 1825. Though commonly associated with the Latin prayer, it was initially titled "Ellens dritter Gesang" (Ellen's Third Song) and set to an English adaptation of Walter Scott’s "The Lady of the Lake."
