This charming Baroque dance piece, though long associated with J.S. Bach, is now believed to be written by German composer Christian Petzold.
It gained immortality through its inclusion in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach, a collection of pieces compiled for Bach's second wife.
Composed for Leipzig's town council inauguration, this festive cantata features an unusual alto opening reflecting "stillness," later reworked into the Mass in B minor. Its final chorale uses Luther's German Te Deum.
