Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, commonly known as the "Pathétique Sonata," is one of the composer's most celebrated works. Written when Beethoven was approximately 27 years old, the sonata was published in 1799. The third movement, Rondo: Allegro, is particularly famous for its energetic and dramatic themes. In a modern adaptation, the South Korean group BanYa created "Beethoven Virus," an electronic dance version that became featured in the arcade game Pump It Up, introducing classical music to new audiences through rhythm gaming.
