"How Great Thou Art" is a Christian hymn based on a Swedish poem written by Carl Boberg in 1885. The poem was inspired by a sudden storm and subsequent calm that Boberg experienced. The melody is a Swedish folk tune. English missionary Stuart K. Hine translated and adapted the poem into English, adding original verses of his own. It became particularly popular in Billy Graham crusades and was named the favorite gospel song of the United States in a 2001 poll.
